What to Bring to Bear Trail Lodge

Layered Warm Clothing

When you head out for a day of fishing or hiking through the Alaskan tundra, you don’t want to worry about being too cold or too hot. That’s why packing layered clothing is essential when setting out into the unknown. Layers give you the flexibility to dress appropriately for whatever weather nature serves up, ensuring that you will remain comfortable throughout your stay with us.

Casual Clothes for Dinner at the Lodge

Every night, guests gather at the main lodge for a delectable gourmet dinner whipped up by the Bear Trail Lodge chefs. You’ll arrive at 6:00 pm for appetizers, and dinner begins at 7 pm! Dinner is a very laid-back affair, and dressy clothes are not necessary. Keep it casual!

Waterproof Jacket

To have the best possible fishing experience, you’ll want to invest in a quality waterproof jacket. Rain or splashing water can make you wet and uncomfortable while fishing, but a jacket will keep your clothes dry, and help to keep you warm and insulated.

Sunscreen

One thing is guaranteed when you’re out by the water – sunshine. There’s nothing quite like the warmth of the sun on your face. However, while sunshine can make for a pleasant day, it’s important to always pack sunscreen when embarking on your fishing adventure. Sunburns are no fun, and applying sunscreen to areas without much clothing can help ensure that your face and neck stay protected from too much UV exposure.

Sunglasses and Prescription Eyewear

The sun reflecting off the water can be particularly intense, creating a blinding glare. Of course, sunscreen to protect your skin is a must, but so are sunglasses to protect your eyes! Not only will they shade your eyes from the bright sunlight, but offer the necessary protection from harmful UV rays. In addition, if you typically use prescription eyewear, be sure to pack them, too–your eyes will thank you for it!

Hats, Gloves, or Neck Gaiters

If you tend to be sensitive to cold temperatures, then having your hat and gloves will make all the difference in how comfortable you feel while fishing. In addition, you may also consider bringing a neck gaiter to keep your neck warm! Not only will you stay warmer with these accessories, but having those extra layers ensures that further into your outing – when your hands are exposed – you won’t have to worry about struggling with cold, stiff fingers. Your hats and gloves are sure to keep you feeling nice and snug so that you can keep your focus where it should be – catching more fish!

Slippers

Don’t forget to pack your slippers for your trip to Bear Trail Lodge! In Alaskan tradition, shoes are to be left at the front door rather than worn inside. We practice that at Bear Trail Lodge! Having a pair of slippers or inside shoes allows you to truly immerse yourself in the Alaskan culture.

Bathing Suit

You might be thinking, “a bathing suit…in Alaska?” But you won’t want to forget it! Kick back and relax in our elevated hot tub. Warm up after a chilly day and enjoy breathtaking views while debriefing your day’s adventures. Don’t worry about getting chilly as you enter and exit the tub; we offer bathrobes to keep you cozy!

Toiletries

When packing for a trip to Bear Trail Lodge, don’t forget the essential toiletries! Whether you have a preferred toothpaste brand or a favorite moisturizer, remember these essentials. We offer bath towels, soaps, shampoo, and the basics, but if there’s something you’d like to have with you, be sure to pack it!

Medications

Bringing any medication you might need on your trip to Bear Trail Lodge is crucial to ensure a comfortable and problem-free vacation. It can be challenging to predict what may come up during the course of a vacation, and we want you to enjoy a pleasant and worry-free stay.

Camera

Bringing a camera with you on your trip to Bear Trail Lodge is essential for capturing the stunning beauty that Alaska has to offer. From its spectacular mountain ranges to its crystal-clear rivers and abundant wildlife, Alaska offers breathtaking views around every river bend. With a camera or GoPro in your hands, you can capture unforgettable moments. Not only will it enable you to remember special moments for a lifetime, but it will also allow you to share with family and friends the stunning sights you’ve seen – and maybe convince them to join you for a return trip!

IDs & Licenses

Your government-issued ID or passport are other important items you’ll need to travel. In addition, if you have a fishing license, don’t forget it! However, you can also purchase a fishing license at the lodge. Non-residents of Alaska can purchase their licenses based on the number of days they intend to fish. Resident fishing licenses are good for the calendar year!
